On the Vumba road

Vumba Botanical Gardens

Seventy-six hectares of gardens and a further 150 of forest reserve, a few kilometres from the hotel. The estate tour's proceeds go to the gardens.

Bunga Forest Botanical Reserve

On the hotel's northern boundary: indigenous montane forest with samango monkeys, blue duiker and the birds the Bvumba is known for.

Mutare and Penhalonga

La Rochelle

The Courtaulds' 1951 house and botanical garden at Penhalonga, a National Trust property. The gardens are open daily to visitors; the roses and orchids peak in late September and October.

Mutare Museum

Natural history, ethnography and the region's transport collection, in the town centre.

Cecil Kop Nature Reserve

On the edge of town, with a viewing hide at the dam in the late afternoon.

Christmas Pass

The view over the city and the Kingsley Fairbridge memorial, where the royal party stopped on 8 July 1953.
